Then they strode off. They walked toward a marble stairs at the end of the room, walked on it. When they got through the landing, things seemed to change. The marble staircase disappeared and was replaced by a wooden staircase, narrow and dark. They all stopped. “What is it about? Everything around has just changed, hasn’t it?” Amelinda said in panic.
“It seems that way.” Heracles answered softly. They turned back, watching. The marble staircase behind them had also disappeared, replaced by the same wooden staircase in front of them.
“What should we do next?” Amelinda asked.
Heracles hesitated slightly. Eyes looked forward observe. “Let’s go forward. I see a room in front.” he said. Then they moved on and stopped in front of the door. Heracles hesitated a bit. Then he knocked.
“Come in.” a tired voice spread out.
Heracles pulled open the door. Then he, Gwen and Amelinda walked in. There was a rather dark room. It was lit by some oil lamps spread out gentle blue light. The room was made of wood and was rather narrow filled full by a lot of stuff and most of them were scepters.
“What do you want?” said a man sitting on an elbow chair standing between scepters by the walkway along the room. He even didn’t look at Heracles, Gwen and Amelinda as they walked in. His head bent down, chin on his hand. He seemed to be sleeping.
“Uhh Hmm- we just walked up here from down there. This is our first time here. Can you help us?” Amelinda said confusedly.
The man raised his head, parted his long, curly black hair aside his face showed out his sleepy eyes with big shadows below and his stubby short beard around his mouth and jaw.
“Oh, newcomer, you have come to the right place I would like to introduce myself I am a Ham, a scepter maker and I'm also the one selling them.” said the man. He stood up, flatted his oversize long black jacket. “What are your names?”
“I’m Amelinda; I am Heracles; I am Gwen.” they answered in turn.
"Amelinda, Gwen, Heracle, are you all the first time here?" said Ham gently.
“Yeah, we are.” they said.
“Oh, if so then we'll need a little more time to try something. Anyway, let it’s up to me. I will try to find the most suitable scepters for you.” said Ham. He walked around, observing all the scetepters there. Then he grabbed one scepter. There was a crystal ball on the top of the scepter and inside the crystal ball there was a five-color feather which somehow shrunk and was floating inside the ball. The five-color feather radiating very gentle blue light.
“Amelinda, I think this is right for you, a girl. It is not a powerful scepter but quite gentle and stable and quite easy to use.” Han said, he gave the scepter to Amelinda. “Do you know the peacock which is raised by goddess Hera?” he asked
“Yes, I know.” Amelinda answered honestly.
“Of course, we can never have the chance to touch on it.” Ham continued, and they listened attentively, “The main source of this scepter's power came from another peacock's tail feather which is one of its offspring’s two remaining feathers while the handle was made of beech core which made it lighter and more stable as you use it. Feel it, Amelinda. If it accepts you, it will give you a signal.”
“So what do I must do?” said Amelinda confusedly.
“Close your eyes and feel. Each scepter has its own personality. Try to connect with it.” he instructed.
Amelinda nodded. She held the scepter tightly, closed her eyes and felt.
“Focus.” said Ham softly.
Suddenly, the five-color feather in the crystal ball fluttered, lit up in seconds then turned off. As soon as it turned off, Amelinda opened her eyes.
“It wasn't very clear, but I sensed something and lost it soon after.” cried Amelinda, “What should I do next?” she asked, looking on Ham.
“Congratulations you, Amelinda!” said Ham, “Even though the connection between you and the scepter has only happened in an instant, it has accepted you as its owner. From now on it’s yours and you can use it. ”
“Thank you Ham. I really love it.” said Amelinda with a big smile.
“I like to hear it from you.” said Ham, turned to Gwen, “Gwen, I watched you for a while. You are a good boy. You don't like fighting and arguing. I can see you like freedom and adventures. A being that represents the qualities you have. It’s Griffin. I think this will suit you.” He strode passed them, reached on another scepter. One thing spread out silver light when he touched. There had a silver drop of blood floating inside the crystal ball. “This is a drop of Griffin’s blood. The Griffin had a pair of silver wings, a powerful creature. It is the king of all animals flying in the sky and walking on ground and also the lord of wind.” He gave Gwen the scepter, “It will let you borrow the power of the wind and power of beast king. Furthermore, its handle is made of from a branch of an ancient Oak standing on the top of a mountain where winds blow entire year. It increases the scepter's wind control ability by one level.”
“Feel it Gwen. It might be harder to perceive than the Amelinda's, but it's worth it.” added Ham, “Because, the power of wind is one of the most powers difficult to hold.”
Gwen held the scepter tightly in his hand. His eyes closed as Amelinda before. He tried to connect to it. It didn’t happen anything in minutes.
“I think the scepter doesn’t accept me.” said Gwen sadly, relaxed his hand.
“Don’t give up Gwen.” said Ham, “I told you it’s difficult to catch its power. However, if you can, You will find it worth it. The blood and soul of a king created this scepter and a king always keeps his words when agreeing to give strength to someone.”
Gwen held the scepter tightly, closed his eyes and tried again.
Then, the silver blood drop suddenly moved then silver light spread out, covered on whole the scepter. Winds gathered, ran around Gwen. Then the crystal ball shined more brightly, flickered then turned off and winds stopped blowing
