“Master Gwen.” the voice of a young girl suddenly spread out. It belonged to a young maid appearing on the stairs. She was walking down and saw Gwen and Heracles walk up. “Who is he, master?” asked the maid, took a sight on Heracles then turned to Gwen looking at him by her innocent eyes.
“He is Heracles, my best friend.” said Gwen.
“Nice to meet you master Heracles. My name is Alma.” said the maid in a pleasant way.
“Nice to meet you Alma.” said Heracles, gave her a smile.
“You look kind Heracles.” said the young maid in lovely voice.
“We are in hurry Alma.” said Gwen interrupting, “We will talk to you but later.”
“Yes, master. Please do your work. I also do my work now.” said Alma, grabbed on her feather brush and started wiping the handrail. Gwen and Heracles strode off at one, going upstairs. Kept silent, they passed the corner of the staircase, and then continued going up.
“She is your family’s new maid?” spoke Heracles curiously.
“Who? You mean Alma.” said Gwen, turned to Heracles.
Heracles nodded.
“Oh yeah, she is new but only with you because she has worked in my family for few years.” added Gwen.
“It’s because I have not come to your home for many years.” explained Heracles.
“Yeah – it’s.” Gwen said, smiling.
Heracles and Gwen kept going they passed all staircases and at last, they came reached on the attic. Gwen pushed opened the trapdoor upon his head then made his way to climb up. Stood on floor, he turned back bent down, grabbed on Heracles’s hand then pulled him up.
“God, your attic is so large.” cried Heracles, turned around. From Heracles’s eyes at the moment was a wide attic which was filled full by a lot of stuff. Wood chests in many sizes were placed in row at one side. Roll of papers and parchments were put neatly in baskets next to the chests. Some old metal objects and many many of others stuff there. They seem to have been forgotten here for a long time that they all were covered dust on their surfaces. Some glasses were set there on the roof to the light to go in and lit up the place. They also turned opaque because of time. While Heracles stood still there observing. Meanwhile, Gwen made his way to chest. He stopped at an unremarkable chest, much smaller than the others and odd old. It also does not have a padlock like the other.
“Here Heracles, this is place, I found map of Treasure Island.” He bent down, quickly swept dust on the wood chest’s surface then opened it. Heracles approached, stood by him. Gwen took out a notebook with old, frayed leather cover. It was tied with a small old string with a quill inside. He gave it to his friend. “It seems to have been here for a long time that I don't know if it belongs to someone in my family or if it’s just a collectible thing.” said Gwen.
Heracles received the notebook. He untied then opened the first book. There were a few words written here and the ink got smudged with time. “This is Sherwin’ and Pi’s diary - journey to Pi’s home.” Heracles read. He turned to next page. “I was once a poor orphan, without a home or relatives. I used to struggle with many occupations to make ends meet, such as running errands for the landlords’ families and earning every penny every day. Until I met Pi…”
Heracles continued.
I was hired to do errands for a wealthy landowner. They had a mansion located outside of a forest. My main daily jobs were to collect firewood in the forest, get water for the daily activities of the landlord’s family and take care of their horses. At night, when all the work was done, I slept in the barn next to the stables.
One day, as usual, I went into the forest to collect firewood. Lost in thoughtless thoughts about the difficult life in the present, I immersed myself in thinking about the rich life and got lost in the deep forest. By chance I accidentally saw a large pearl. Something that shouldn't have appeared here. The jewel emitted a beautiful blue light. Without hesitation, I took off my shirt and wrapped the jewel but I didn't dare to bring it. Therefore, I spent the whole day in the forest without picking up any firewood. Only late in the afternoon did I decide to return. I went straight to the barn and buried the gem in the depths of the straw where I slept and lay there. I couldn’t sleep the whole night, fearing that others would find out. By morning, I was able to sleep for a while.
The next days I still went to the forest to collect firewood and acted as usual to avoid any attention. Every night before I went to sleep I checked to see if the gem was still there. Things went like this for a few days. Everything was fine until the 10th day.
The morning of the tenth day after picking up the gem, I woke up to find the gem but it was not there, below my head. I stood up immediately, touching. The gem had gone. I panicked, really panicked. I rummaged through the place looking for it and found a few fragments of the gem. Even if they were just fragments, they still glowed and looked gorgeous. I continued to search beneath the haystack and added a few more pieces. However, they were too few compared to the original gem. I digged up other places. Then t saw something move beneath the haystack. It moved towards me and stopped right in front of me. Then it broke out from the haystack and climbed up. It was the first time I met such a creature. A creature with the head and front-half body and the wings of a bird, the behind-half body, tail, and hind legs of an animal. It blinked at me for a moment, then suddenly it happily wagged its tail and jumped into my lap and curled up. So that the gem was an egg and this creature was born from that gem.
I named it Pi and kept it by myself. Pi was also always by my side all day. When I went to the forest to collect firewood, Pi got into my shirt then I took it to go forest with me. When we came, Pi got out of my shirt and flew freely in there. When I returned, Pi once again entered my shirt and then we got back. When we got back to the barn, Pi came out and hide inside the haystack...."
Heracles was indeed a little impatient. He flipped through the diary quickly and stopped in the middle of the book and continued reading.
