Heracles, Gwen and Amelinda have an Art and Lyre lesson in morning and the person who taught it was Professor Linus who Heracles hated most. He always got trouble with him. Heracles didn’t want it to happen. Therefore, he and Gwen made their way to their class early when almost of others had not come. They took their seats at table at the middle of the class. Others came after that. The class turned crowded and noisy. They sat in groups chatting. Amelinda appeared after that. She hurriedly found the way to come to them. “Hi Heracles, Gwen,” she squealed, put thick books and her lyre down table in front of them. Then she turned back, “Why are you so early? It’s not like you as usual.” she added.
“We only do want to get any trouble with Professor Linus.” said Heracles uncomfortably.
“I have not thought it’s the reason you come class early.” she said loudly.
“It is the reason.” said Gwen. He grinned.
Amelinda pouted then turned to face the board at one.
“Amelinda,” called Gwen, touched on her shoulder.
“What else, Gwen?” said Amelinda. She turned.
“Exactly, which book will we use in Professor Linus this term?” Gwen leant on the table whispered.
“Uhmm, it’s “The holy sound Lyre” by Romanos.” replied Amelinda.
“Thanks Amelinda.” said Gwen.
Amelinda looked on him few seconds. “Uhm – no problem.” she said then turned back again. She opened a thick book and started reading.
“Still the boring Lyre lesson,” lamented Gwen, “When will we get rid of it.”
“I really don’t hate lyre lesson. The problem was lyre professor Linus.” whispered Heracles.
“Oh, you’re right.” said Gwen, smiled.
Footsteps echoed outside. Professor Linus appeared with a book and a lyre one hand. He strode forward the desk. His long black cloak flipped back. Professor Linus stopped his desk looking over the class. His smooth long dark hair partially covered his back and his black eyes made him even more gloomy. The noise lowered and then disappeared. All people scattered turning back their seats. Professor Linus put his book and lyre on desk. His dark eyes scanned on entire class. “Zeusias, we meet again. How about your vacation? I hope it’s good or it’s not.” said Professor Linus coldly. His eyes stopped at Heracles and Gwen few seconds, “It may by someway still affects to you. However, forget it. I don’t want you distracted in my class.”
“All of you have book? The copy of The holy sound Lyre by Romanos. It’s the book you use this year – it’s on higher level than Art and Lyre by H. Jaufre Rudel – a useful book but not all people could understand.” his eyes stopped at Heracles for moments. Heracles felt uncomfortable. He dodged his eyes. “Take you book out and open page five. We will start there.” he added, bent down. He opened his book. “Do any of you take a look on your book? In reality, I didn’t expect someone do it.” said Professor Linus sarcastically. “Because, I know all of you think that music in general and lyre in particular are rather useless. They just relaxed your minds and make you happy. I’m not wrong, right?” he stopped, watching over the class. No noise came out. All people kept in silence. “All right, though you all didn’t admit, I know it.” he added, still in sarcastic tone. “I really don’t want to remember it but anyone can tell me when the first lyre was created and who created it.” he said. His eyes stopped at Leo who sat at one end next to the wall behind Heracles a table. Leo stood up, awkwardly looked at Professor Linus. He scratched his head. “Sorry sir, can you repeat your questions?” he said. Eyes focused on him.
“Ten points from Zeusia family are taken. Leo sat down. Stay focused in my class” said Professor Linus coldly. His face became gloomy, Leo sat down. Heracles also turned back. “Anyone has answer?” he asked again. Few arms raised. Professor Linus scanned on them then he stopped at a slender arm with long slender and beautiful fingers. It belonged to Adela who had long blonde hair and a beautiful face with a bit arrogant. She was from a noble lineage. “Adela,” said Professor Linus.
Adela gently stood up. “Dear Professor, the first lyre was created by god Hermes. He made it in the time he stole cows of god Apollo and was leading them away.” she said gentle. Heracles noticed all Adela’s behaviors and sayings were humble and well-mannered. “Very good Adela.” said Professor Linus, “Five points are added to your family. Sit down.” he added.
“As Adela said, the first lyre was made in the time god Hermes was leading cows away from god Apollo. Why did he do it? I may be for fun.” he said. “But, by someway he had created a divine instrument which could control the cattle. They were really brainwashed following the sounds of lyre that god Hermes didn’t need to do anything but playing his instrument. It means the lyre is not only for entertainment.” he raised his voice, “It is also used to control the mind.” he stressed. His eyes watched over them again.
“What is he saying? Do you understand Gwen?” whispered Heracles, turning to Gwen.
“No, I don’t but Amelinda probably knows.” whispered Gwen. “Amelinda,” he called. Then Amelinda turned back, looked at him. “What is Professor Linus talking about?” he whispered.
“He talked about the higher level of lyre using, summoning and controlling.” said Amelinda, kept her voice low. A lyre master can summon various creatures and control them by the sound of lyre.” she whispered.
“Really?” Gwen spoke up, could not keep his voice in whispered. He immediately realized what he just done, covering his mouth by hand but he caught the attention of Professor Linus. His eyes focused on them. “Do you have any problem with my lesson, Gwen?” he said, staring at him then scanning his eyes over Heracles and Amelinda.
“No - I don’t, professor.” awkwardly he replied.
Professor Linus looked him in seconds. “No – I think you really have some problem.” said Professor Linus. He hurriedly left the podium, striding toward them. His heel pounded on the ground – cop – cop.
