“You mean that you are also taught using magic.” said Amelinda. Both she and Heracles frowned staring at her waiting for the answer. They always believed that Hippocoon land was only one place where chosen people were taught magic but Lily’s saying made them think differently.
“Oh no, I am not.” said Lily at one, “I only hear them from others.”
Amelinda’s and Heracles’s faces relaxed at one. “There also have different worlds outside.” said Amelinda in deep voice, “Among normal people there a special people. They live in two worlds, the world for normal people and the world for chosen people, the hidden world or the magical world. I, Heracles and Gwen are the people who live in both the worlds. We act and live as like the others as we live in normal world but when we came to the magic world which we call Hippocoon land we was taught to use and control magic. Of course, all the things are only allowed inside Hippocoon land; it also means to do magic outside is illegal.”
“Illegal.” repeated Lily.
“Yes, illegal. All magic outside is prohibited.” added Heracles; his voice was serious.
“Why?” Lily raised her voice.
“It’s the law to protect the normal.” said Amelinda.
“But you used magic to come here. Is it against the law?” Lily faltered.
“Yes, it is.” Amelinda answered.
“You must be brave daring to against the law.” said Lily, admirably glared at Amelinda and Heracles.
“Honestly, we are not. It’s because of him.” said Amelinda, hinted Lily to Gwen who was snorting.
“He did bring to us a map belonged to his forefathers. It drew a place called Treasure Island.” Heracles continued Amelinda’s saying, “And accompanying with it is an old book guiding us to create a shifting-circle used to come to Treasure Island. As soon as we saw the things, we at one were attracted. Therefore, we decided to joint with him and went to the place. However, instead of bringing us to Treasure Island, we came to here.”
“What happened?” said Lily quickly.
“Donnu. We don’t know why the shifting-circle brought us to here. We all expected to meet griffins in Treasure Island but now all things are broken when we couldn’t come to the island.” said Heracles unhappily.
“You told about griffins.” Lily caught Heracles words, “What are they? Why do you want to meet them?” asked Lily.
“Griffins, they are hybrid creatures having body, tail and back legs of lions; heads and wings of eagles. They are the most powerful creature in the world, lord of the sky, king of all animals flying in the sky and animals walking on the ground, very powerful and also dangerous.” Heracles said. His voice turned proud, “And Treasure Island,” he added, “it is the place Griffins live.”
“So brave! I don’t think you dare to face the creature.” said Lily admirably.
“Yeah – but we couldn’t come to there.” said Heracles sadly.
“Lily,” Amelinda spoke up.
“Yeah” Lily replied, turned to Amelinda at one.
“I want to ask a question.” said Amelinda again, “Who is your Lord? I heard you and your mother mentioned to him in the dinner.”
“Uhmm—he is…”
“Heracles, Amelinda – run---” suddenly Gwen creamed up, breaking their conversation. Heracles, Amelinda and Lily immediately turned to Gwen. He had sat up with a scared face and sweat drops on forehead.
“What happened, Gwen.” squealed Amelinda.
“I just have a nightmare.” answered Gwen. His eyes still unconsciously looked on the wall, not seeing Amelinda.
“What is this?” asked Amelinda. Gwen turned to them.
“Oh Lily, when did you come?” he said.
“I came a while ago. But, what happened to you.” said Lily concernedly.
“I come to talk to Heracles and Amelinda. So what do you dream about Gwen?” said Lily curiously.
“It’s a nightmare” said Gwen. He stopped, falling in silence think.
“What’s your nightmare Gwen?” said Heracles impatiently.
“I, forget it.” said Gwen. His face was dull looking on Heracles innocently.
“What?” said Heracles at one, “You said that you forgot.”
“Yes, I forgot.” said Gwen shortly. Heracles, Amelinda gave him odd looking. The place was silent in seconds.
“Honestly, it’s late. I should go. See you tomorrow.” Lily spoke up. She stood up then left.
“See you late.” said Amelinda.
“See you.” said Gwen as she went pass him.
“Good night.” she said before getting out of the room.
---
It was completely dark outside. Inside the room candles were shining and spreading out sweet smell. They seemed to be made of beeswax. Heracles, Amelinda had been on the bed. They and Gwen had fallen in sleep. The night was very silent around them.
It had been midnight. The silent night suddenly was broken by sounds of hooves which came from the forest moving toward Calliope’s house then stopped at the door. There had no knock on the door but a person brought a candle appearing, silently made her way to the door then opened it. She was no one but Calliope.
“They, children are here?” said someone in deep voice.
“Yes, they are.” replied Calliope.
“Why do you dare to let them stay? Don’t you scare Lord know about them? Don’t you care to be punished?” said the other.
“He will not know.” said Calliope.
“No, he will. The problem is only time.” said the other.
“Though, I think he will do nothing to them. I’m sure.” said Calliope.
“There has nothing certain here because it’s him.” shouted the other. The sounds of hooves one more time spread out but moving far away the house heading to the forest; the other left. He’s a centaur.
“Don’t forget that you also came from outside, not being born here Eric.” said Calliope after him.
“Yes, I was not born here but I swore to serve him and he allowed me to stay here.” he replied. He didn’t look back.
“Don’t you want to leave?” Aunt Calliope asked loudly.
The sounds of hooves vanished. He stopped. “No, I don’t.” he said then walked to the forest.
Calliope didn’t say more, looking on his back till he vanished in the dark.
Aunt Calliope closed the door then she made her way back in her room.
“Where did you go mother?”
“Eric came and I went to meet him.”
The place got silent no more voices. Aunt Calliope went on the bed and slept.
