Chapter 8: The village (part 1)

The sounds of hooves stopped. They had come. Heracles and Gwen sat up, looked through Lily and Amelinda and saw the village. It’s place of small houses standing close to each other. Some children were in front of the houses. They stood under tree and tried to pick apples.

“Sis Lily.” one child realized Lily and called up. Other children stopped poking apples, turned toward them. “Lily – Lily …” they noisily called up. Then they threw their twigs, rushed toward Lily. At the moment, Heracles and Gwen made had gotten out of the cart. They moved ahead gathering with Lily and Amilenda. They both took oranges baskets with them. Suddenly the children stopped as watched Heracles, Gwen and Amelinda with caution.

“Who are they sis Lily?” squealed one boy.

“They are my new friends – Heracles – Amelinda and Gwen.” Lily happily introduced. “Come and get acquainted with them.”

“Who are you? Why don’t I see them before? Don’t they come from outside?” said another boy hesitatingly.

“Outside –

What does it mean? –

How can it happen? Is it true?

No, it can not.

No one from outside can come to here because Lord protect us away from all things outside –”

The children turned much noisy; they talked very much, not forget to give Heracles, Gwen and Amelinda strange looking with fear.

“Yes, they come from outside.” Lily spoke up, “But, they are good children.”

The voices of children vanished immediately. They all turned to Heracles, Gwen and Amelinda at one, opened their eyes widely looking on them. Their eyes were filled full by fear.

“What wrong with them?” Heracles said deeply, turned to Lily.

“They-” said Lily, still didn’t have chance to explain to him.

“Sis Lily – don’t you know it that we are not supposed to touch on anything coming from outside? Don’t you know it?” squeaked a boy.

“Yes, I know.” said Lily shortly.

“You know it. Yes, you must know it. All people know it?” squeaked the boy again, “And – of course – you also know that Lord will abandon us if we touch on anything outside.” The boy frowned, glared at Lily, waiting for her answer. He was the tallest child and seemed also the oldest boy having curly black hair and steadfast eyes.

“Yes, I’ve heard about it Bernie but they are good children” said Lily.

As soon as Lily finished her saying, the children and even Heracles, Gwen and Amelinda turned Lily. They all looked at her by opening wide eyes.

“What they just said is true.” said Amelinda in very soft voice.

“Yes, it’s true.” said Lily, turned to Amelinda looking at her gently. She turned to Heracles, Gwen and then looked back to the children.

“It’s only a story from a long time ago. It didn’t talk about Lord. I believe.” said Lily, “Our Lord has a great kind heart. He will not abandon anyone of us.”

“Noooo- You don’t understand” screamed Bernie, “It’s not a story. It’s rule - which Lord himself had set. No it’s a curse Lord will abandon us if we touch on them, give them food, drink or let them live in our homes.”

“You and your mother, Aunt Calliope did all the things. Lord will abandon both of you.”; “Bring your oranges back. We don’t need them more. We don’t want Lord to abandon us like you.” added Bernie.

“Are you sure - we don’t need the oranges.” said a chubby boy standing next to Bernie, looking to baskets of oranges avidly.

“Of course – yes.” said Bernie.

“Come on Bernie. Don’t behave like that. I know that you like them, the oranges.” said Lily sweetly.

“No, I’m not.” said Bernie shortly, “Go back.” he added, turned his back to Heracles and others then stepped away. However, he was only the children who left. The other children still kept staying right at their places.

“Hey! Why do you still stand there?” said loudly Bernie, “Get away from them.”

However, the children didn’t move a little, they still stood there, glared at oranges Heracles and others brought. Then a girl walked ahead approaching to Lily. She topped at front of Lily.

“Lord will not abandon me if I ate oranges, won’t he?” said the girl in cute voice. Lily smiled, looked into the deep blue eyes of the girl.

“No, he won’t.” she said warmly, rubbed on her head. The little girl smiled, made her way to Gwen and Heracles.

“What are you doing Arian?” screamed Bernie, “Turn back here now.”

The little girl stopped. She turned back, innocently looked at Bernie. She smiled then turned away heading to Heracles. “Nooo-” Bernie screamed again. He made the way to rush to her but it’s too late; Arian had stood front of Heracles.

“Hi! I am Arian. What your name?” she said, raised her head up looking to him. It made Heracles not able to refuse her because she was the cutest girl Heracles had ever seen. A blonde hair which was tied in two braids, a straight noise and a pair of big eyes were on a chubby face.

“I – I’m Heracles.” he said with a bit puzzle.

“Nice to meet you – Heracles. Can I have oranges?” said Arian, still in clear voice.

“Of course, you can. We bring them for you.” said Heracles.

“Thank you.” said Arian. She took each orange on each hand then made her way turn back. “God!” Bernie screamed loudly and turned speechless immediately. He stood still few stepped from Arian, opened his eyes widely and gave her an odd looking; his lips shaking but there had nothing came out from his mouth. Then his body also shook. He had to bit his lip to keep his calm.

“I took one for you, brother.” said Arian, handing an orange to Bernie.

“Nooo- I – don’t need you to take orange from them.” said Bernie. His voice turned much high and was difficult to hear. He couldn’t to keep his lips not to shake more.

“Take it brother.” said Arian again.

“No – no –  I don’t want them.” said Bernie, “You – you – why you -” Bernie wanted to say something but he couldn’t. Then he turned his way, broke pass others walking straight to the houses. The other children still stood there after Bernie left. They observed Arian for a while but there had nothing happened to her. It made them doubt believing or not about their Lord’s rule. Then some of them started moving; they walked toward Lily, Amelinda, Heracles and Gwen.

“Sis Lily – I want oranges.”

“I want two of them.”

“I also want two.” said the children. They turned much noisy than ever.

It is hard to find you” he called up. He hurriedly made the way step down the stairs. Though his body was big and stout, he moved very fast coming to them and froze as he saw a dead on ground. “Who are they?” he asked softly, looking on Amelinda. “This is Lily and - Aunt Calliope.” Amelinda said hesitantly; “She is Lily’s mother. She saved all of us.” she added sadly.  Between curly hair and bushy beard which almost covered his face were warm eyes. She warmly looked on Lily who was sitting on ground holding her mother’s hand. He decided to keep silent, turned to Heracles, Gwen, Amelinda then turned to the dead Hydra dragon which was not far away from them.  “I dont know how you could kill the dragon but there has one thing we have to do before we leave this place.” said Roger calmly, “Go with me Amelinda.
