Chapter 11: The gate (part 2)

“Yeah, we only need to pass the gate, find Amelinda and let’s leave in peace.” said Gwen quickly. He took a giant breath, looked at Heracles. They bowed their head then together stepped ahead. A tunnel with marble stairs appeared as they walked to the place. The light shone down and help them can see the tunnel. It looked high and wide, leading underground. They stepped down and stopped at place the light could reach. They carefully observed through the darkness but they could not see anything. Darkness suddenly moved to their feet quickly something was taken away the light. Heracles and Gwen turned back at one and saw the the trapdoor was being closed. “Heracles, the trapdoor.” Gwen cried. However, nothing could stop the trapdoor not to close. With a loud noise the ground trembled. The trapdoor closed and light was taken away. Heracles and Gwen sank into darkness completely. They became confused. “It had been closed. What must we do now?” squealed Gwen. He turned scared. Heracles was also scared like his friend but he kept himself calm and prevented as though everything was okay. “We come here to save Amelinda. Keep calm. We will find the way Gwen.” he said. Suddenly, light appeared from deep tunnel the torches hanging on tunnel wall themselves burnt up. The light came back to Heracles and Gwen. They looked to the trapdoor which was closed and then looked to the others. “We should go on.” said Heracles. Then they turned back and walked in the tunnel. Both Heracles and Gwen kept themselves in silence and alertly observed around but there really didn’t have any one. They become bolder, their steps turned faster. They went deep underground along the spiral tunnel. It looked more like marvel than a tunnel. The walls were also paved by marbles and somewhere was even sculpted with shapes. Sometimes, they met other paths along the way. They were other tunnels smaller and darker. Heracles and Gwen had looked inside some tunnels when they passed them but it’s too dark and they could not saw anything inside. Therefore, they left and ignored all other tunnels they met on the way. “Do you think where the tunnels lead to?” asked Gwen. He turned more curious as he walked pass other tunnels. “I really don’t know. They can lead to anywhere but we don’t need to know it. We only need to come to place of Amelinda now.” said Heracles. “Of course, I know it Heracles. I’m only curious.” said Gwen. They kept going ahead. It turned colder much. They could feel the thing after long time following the tunnel going down. The light was in the foreground. They walked foreword and stepped in a brilliant passage. The air was also warmer. They stopped there, observing the long passage a little. No one was ahead. They continued walking. The footsteps suddenly sounded up when they were on halfway. Someone was coming. Both Heracles and Gwen were confused. They were still not ready to face to anyone. Their hearts pounded as two long shadows appeared at the corner. They turned more urgent, looked around. Suddenly, two hands emerged from the wall, pulled Heracles and Gwen into a dark passage and kept them here. Their mouths were covered by hands. The footsteps came more closed. Their eyes still kept looking out. Two people wearing in black hooded cloak walked passed and quickly went away. The hands released as the footsteps disappeared completely. Heracles and Gwen turned back. Under little light they saw a familiar face, Aunt Calliope. “What are you doing here?” asked Aunt Calliope. There had a little anger in her voice. “We are finding Amelinda. Where did you bring here to?” asked Heracles quickly. Aunt Calliope startled, looked at them in shock. “Did you break my spell?” she said in trembling voice. “Yes, we did remember everything. Let’s us come home.” Gwen spoke up. Both he and Heracles looked straight into her eyes. Aunt Calliope kept silent in moments. “Follow me. I will bring you to her.” she said. She pulled her hood over her head, took her long dry branch - stick leaning against the wall. She poked it on ground then the rhombus crystal block on the stick head glowed up. It’s not too bright but it’s enough for them to see the way. Aunt Calliope turned her way walking deeply into the dark passage. Heracles and Gwen quickly followed her. She led passed some corners then at last came to a chamber. Aunt Calliope pushed open the door, light from candles came out. A girl was sitting by a stone table. Her face looked sad. She was Amelinda. “Amelinda!” Heracles and Gwen yelled up, rushed forward. Amelinda’s face relaxed at one. She promptly looked forward the door. “Heracles, Gwen.” said Amelinda. Her voice cracked and tear dropped down from her eyes. “I thought that I would never meet you again.” she said in whining voice.

“It’s okay. We come to save you.” said Gwen with a smile on his mouth.

“Did you remember everything?” asked Heracles.

“She was not affected by the spell.” said Aunt Calliope. She approached to them after carefully closed the door.

“Didn’t she tell the truth?” asked Heracles, staring at Amelinda.

She bowed her head. “Yes, she’s right.” she said.

“Why didn’t you tell us Amelinda? Why did you keep silence the whole time?” Gwen raised his voice, looked straight into her eyes.

“I can’t.” she lamented, “It’s a powerful spell. You both will think I’m crazy if I tell you who you are.”, “I have no choice but to keep silence and find the way to break the spell.” she added.

“You are very intelligent. If later on I have the chance, I want to teach you all I know about magic.” said Aunt Calliope with warm smile on her face. She put in her pocket and took out three rings. “They are things belonging to you.” she said, spread her hand to them. Heracles, Gwen and Amelinda took the rings then wore back their fingers. They were their space rings. “We should leave.” added Aunt Calliope.  Amelinda’s space ring lit up then three hooded cloak appeared. She gave two to Heracles and Gwen. Three of them wore in the cloaks then pulled hoods up to cover their faces. Aunt Calliope walked to the door. She opened it ajar, peered out, observed around. Then she turned in and hinted them to follow. After left the room, they quickly passed a corner going into a deserted and dark corridor. “Aunt Calliope, can you let us know where this place is?” asked Heracles curiously. Aunt Calliope kept silent in seconds, still kept walking. “This is a dungeon or rather it is a prison, a place to imprison a scary and intellectual monster – a dragon named Hydra - an immortal and powerful dragon. Its power was enormous and enough to rival the power of the gods. Because of the power, the dragon he dares to despise the gods and goddesses. It had angered them, some Olympians. Therefore, they brought it to here, a secluded island at middle of the sea and detained him here as punishment.” Aunt Calliope stopped. Her face darkened. “It’s the time people here started hell life.” she added, “The Hydra dragon could stand shackles and become violent. It heated everything around by its terrible fire. It spit out venom and poisoned this land. Then it cursed this land. People, animals and plants were wiped out of this place. The remaining ones had no other choice but to come and beg it.

Still kept silent, he bowed his head. “Will you follow my words?” asked Heracles again. “Yes, I will. But, can you behave as usual, Agassi? You make me a little scared.” said Gwen. “Listen to me Gwen.” said Heracles, hurriedly left the bed coming to the clothes hanger, “You’re Gwen and I’m Heracles. They are our names. They don’t change though others call us by anything.” he stressed, his hand grabbed on his clothes and managed to put in it, “It’s very difficult for you to accept it now” he lowered his voice, “but we have been enchanted. Chapter 10: I am Heracles (part 2)

The last basket of orange was taken away. The men also vanished with the oranges. There were only children with Heracles, Gwen, Lily and Amelinda. They kept staying around the cart playing and talking. Lily and Gwen enjoyed participating with the children while Heracles and Amelinda seemed to be more silent.  “Agassi, come here and join with us.” called Gwen. “What do you want Peres?” Heracles said loudly. “Come here.” Gwen called again. Heracles left the cart, stepped toward Gwen. There some children were gathering around him. “What do you need Gwen?” Heracles asked. “We are playing a game. Don’t you want to join with us?” said Gwen. “What’s this?” asked Heracles. “Brother Agassi, don’t you see it?” said Gwen. He pointed to straight bamboos. Heracles looked. There had three high straight bamboos standing side by side. The bamboos were about two hundreds of yards away from their places. The middle bamboo was the highest. It’s about one hundred and fifty feet high Heracles guessed. The
